One very important skill for online business owners to master is the art of writing enticing product descriptions. Product descriptions shouldn’t simply describe the physical dimensions of your product. Product descriptions need to actually SELL your product. The product description should not only cast your products in the best light, they should also create a need to get the consumer clicking on your website to purchase the product or service. Do not get lazy when writing your product description. The product description is often underestimated as a very powerful tool when selling your products or services. Below are some strategies to write a killer product description that’s sure to improve sales.

Who is your buyer? When you write a product description for too broad an audience, you lose focus on the initial approach. When trying to appeal to everyone, you end up resonating with no-one. Make sure your product description appeals specifically to your “ideal consumer”. Always write with them directly in mind and make sure to consider your use of language so that it is familiar to the customer and easy to understand. Jargon and unknown terms tend to put prospective customers off from making a purchase.

What’s in it for them? Listing the benefits the purchase can provide the customer will help to create both a need and want. Highlight how your product or service can make the customer’s life easier or how it can help them to solve problems and save time. Identifying the objectives customers may have about your product or service is a great approach in highlighting what your business has to offer. Answering all the concerns customers may have in the product description is very effective.

Clarity in your product description is very important. Being clear as to what the customer will receive after making a purchase from your website is imperative. Customers do not get the opportunity to touch the products or experience the service offered when purchasing online. Never assume that your customer will automatically know what is included in your product or service.

USPs: Make sure to include in your product description what sets you apart from your competitors. A unique selling point USP), cheapest price or most compelling products are what really attracts customers.

Make it compelling. Write with enthusiasm. If you are excited about your product or service and its amazing features, it will show in the way that you write. Your product description is the only chance to get to convey to your customer just how incredible your product or service is. A good product description will indeed aid your business in increasing sales exponentially.
