Alignment of Sales and marketing crucial to success

Merging sales and marketing into one campaign can sometimes be a difficult task due to the different metrics used to measure the success of each department. However, having one single department working together seamlessly will allow an organisation to close more business. Both departments ultimately share the same goals and will perform better with coherent collaboration. With sales and marketing combined, it becomes far easier to track results and make high-impact changes to increase your customer base. The following are three ways to achieve sales and marketing alignment in a business:

  1. Share content planning

Marketers should always have insight into what customers need, which allows them to be in a better position to create content that focuses on those needs.  As the salespeople typically work closely with customers on a regular basis they are able to provide the marketers with feedback on such needs and subsequently be able to direct their selling efforts in a more customer-centric way with appropriate marketing backing them up…

  1. Collaboration through customer metrics

One should evaluate the metrics used for each department’s goals and find those that influence each other collectively. Each department needs to fulfill its own specific objectives, but finding common goals reduces the workload on each department, allows more ideas to come to the table and ultimately results in more effective campaigns.

  1. Communication between departments

Bringing separate departments together can only be successful if constructive communication occurs between them. Conducting weekly meetings with all teams involved, sharing dashboards and company information amongst one another, as well as agreeing on terminology that everyone can use when discussing various topics will help create a tighter work relationship between the sales and marketing departments. If properly managed, it also ensures that people look out for each other and support each other’s initiatives.

 

Aligning your sales and marketing team is a fantastic way to grow your business and move beyond what separate sales and marketing teams can achieve. By successfully aligning sales and marketing, you can get to retain more customers and achieve higher success rates which generates higher revenue. It may not be an easy task but to begin with but with commitment to the process things start falling into place and the results can be very rewarding.
