Common mistakes to avoid when using email marketing

Email marketing is a great way to engage with existing clients and prospective customers.                           It provides a direct line of communication to share your business’ interests, products or services. However, many companies go about this incorrectly. Here are a few tips on what to look out for.

 

  1. Don’t forget the mobile

Your subscribers may well love your emails, but it might only be those who view them from their computers. It is now proven that 50% of emails are now read from cellphones. Emails that are not formatted correctly for all devices usually end up being deleted, and that is not what you want. Make sure to optimise your email settings for all devices before sending them off.

 

  1. Ask for permission

Sending emails to random people could result in big consequences for your business. A prospective customer who feels violated by your unwanted email could report your business as one that spams emails and may ultimately have you blacklisted indefinitely as a spammer. This is the last thing you want for your business. Maintain good relationships with your existing clients by adhering to the permission they have given you to send them emails and go forward with that approach for prospective customers.

 

  1. Know your customer

Being aware of your clients’ needs are imperative when creating content for your emails. It takes research and engaging with your supporters to find out what is important to them, and how your business can add value to them. It will not only give your existing clients confidence in their choice to support your business, but spark interest among prospective customers and ultimately help turn them into paying customers.
