Tips to avoid becoming a spammer

Have you always wondered why your emails end up in the spam box to those you send email to? We might know the person we are emailing but for some odd reason they do not receive your email as it went straight into their spam folder.

Here is a list of things to avoid to prevent your emails from being labelled as spam:
Do not:
• Use words such as “free”, “money back offer guaranteed” or ” win” etc.
• Use loud colours in the email body text, such as red or green.
• Use all capital letters in the subject line or even within the body of the email.
• Use exclamation signs or other punctuation marks more than once.
• Use excessive symbols, e.g. ($$$). – use descriptive words instead.
• Make call-to-action buttons overly prominent. Words such as ‘Click Here’ are spam triggers.
• Use bad HTML coding in an email and avoid converting Microsoft word files to HTML.

Use these rules to help stay out of your customers’ and prospects’ spam folders and make them aware of what your company has to offer. Your email might look professional but the devil is in the detail when it comes to whether your e-mails are regarded as spam or not.
